Kai Seizen Song-Nichols - NYC Shakuhachi Lessons

About Me

I have been playing the shakuhachi since 2005. Since then, I have had the great fortune in life of being able to study the instrument with a number of incredibly kind and talented teachers, to whom I am eternally grateful.

I studied Jin Nyodo honkyoku and sankyoku in lessons with Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin, and am currently studying Dokyoku honkyoku and modern music with Shawn Tairyu Head, from whom I received a Junior Instructor's certification (Jun Shihan, "静禅", Seizen) in 2024, and Kinko ryu honkyoku and sankyoku music as part of the wonderful Brooklyn Shakuhachi Club, led by Adam Robinson, with workshops by Yoko Hiraoka and Ralph Samuelson.

My goal as a teacher is to provide an entryway into the world of the shakuhachi in a gentle, well-humored, but thorough way, providing students with a strong foundation from which they can continue their shakuhachi journey in any direction they wish to!
